How to avoid handholding in future games

A lot of the people of pokemon games are veterans (if you look at online polls - most of them are) and have been playing the games for years or even decades. However the handholding in pokemon games seems to get worse with every generation. While i do understand that the pokemon games are aimed at a younger audience i feel like the games should also try to cater more to their veterans in the future.

Here is how i would do it:

Give people in the character creator the choice between a kid character or a grown up and make one of them easy mode and the other one a hard mode with reduced or almost no handholding. Both characters can take the same or a similar path through the world but they could have different backstories. The kid can be your typical pokemon protagonist while the adult could be an assistant researcher for a pokemon professor from another region who came to the new region to help the professor of that region (ideally you could choose between the different types of trainers like Motorcyclist, Blackbelt, Swimmer/Golfer, Cook, ect. and get your own little questline in addition the the main story).

Instead of moving to a new house with your mom you could move there on your own. Instead of going through school like in sun and moon you could visit the school and teach the kids some lessons by battling them.

On your way through the region you could still battle the gym leaders (for fun) and they could be more difficult since they know that you are experienced.

I believe this concept could be applied to pretty much every part of the game and would only require a moderate amount of work. Furthermore it would increase the replayability by a lot (especially for speedrunners).

tl;dr: I suggest implementing a character creator where you can choose between beginner (kid) and hard mode (adult) which results in slightly different story lines to cater to both audiences.
