I saw these kinds of polls made on Gamefaqs by someone named SilverSock and I was interested to see this subreddit's opinions on the preferred starters of each of the protagonists and rivals.
Note: I use canon loosely since I know that in the end there is no true "canon" starter, I just want to see what each person prefers for each protagonist and rival.

Here it is, the first poll between Red and Blue (Green in Japan).
Personally, I prefer Red having Charmander and Blue having Squirtle, but I would like to see what you guys pick and your reasoning behind those picks.
EDIT: Okay, I'm getting downvoted for this post, apparently. This subreddit sure is something, then.
