Introduced in Gen I, Explosion had a base power of 170, but it would halve the opponent's Defense, thus it acted more like a base power of 340. Generation II bumped it up to 250 base power, and still kept the defense drop, thus you could say Explosion acted with a whopping 500 base power! Unfortunately, in Gen V, they removed that defense drop, so Explosion stayed at 250 base power until today.
As for something really random, Explosion can be taught to Onix by breeding with either Geodude, Graveler or Golem, but strangely, it was only allowed in Generation III and IV. No other generation can Onix learn Explosion.
