I used to play a Mega Altaria gimmick team in ORAS doubles OU which involves boomburst. Haven't been playing much since then so I wonder how this team would fair in gen 7. Like mentioned this is a gimmick set and so is not meant to be taken too seriously. Also I didn't think much when putting this team together so any suggestions are welcome!
**Core pokemon**
Altaria-Mega @ Altarianite Ability: Pixilate EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature -Tailwind -Flamethrower -Protect -Mirror move
Gourgeist-small @Focus stash Ability: Frisk EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe Jolly Nature -Trick-or-Treat -Explosion -Protect -Magic coat
Noivern @Life Orb Ability: Telepathy EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Modest Nature -Boomburst -Flamethrower -Tailwind -Dragon Pulse
**General idea**
Turn 1: Altaria Megas, use tailwind. Gourgeist gives Altaria ghost type
Turn 2: Altaria protects. Gourgeist explodes
Turn 3 onwards: Noivern boombursts, Altaria mirror moves Noivern and uses a pixilated + STAB boosted boomburst
Altaria is immune to boomburst due to the added ghost type, Noivern has telepathy. Flamethrower checks steel types. Noivern is also used to set up the second tailwind. The double boomburst scored easy KOs on many Pokémon, especially the pixilated STAB boosted one.
I've rotated different Pokémon in the last slot as seen below
Exploud @ Choice scarf Ability: Soundproof EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature -Boomburst -Flamethrower -Extrasensory -Ice beam
Backup Boomburst in case Noivern gets KOed
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb Ability: Poison Heal EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe Careful Nature -Substitute -Baton pass -Toxic -Knock off
Main purpose is to pass subs to Altaria/Gourgeist
Espeon @ Leftovers EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe Bold Nature -Substitute -Baton pass -Toxic -Protect
Same as Gliscor
Landorus-T @ Life Orb/Sitrus Berry Ability: Intimidate EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Jolly Nature -Earthquake -Rock slide -Knock off -Protect
General purpose clean up crew if Altaria is KOed
Of course, being a gimmick team it falls apart easily when you poke it in the right places. Notable counters include shadow sneak, sucker punch, and especially trick room. Poison and fire types, and specially defensive Pokémon caused problems. Special mention goes to steel types for resisting both regular and Pixilate boomburst.
What do you guys think of this? Definitely had a lot of fun back then catching people off guard with this! Tried to post this at r/stunfisk but since gimmick teams aren't technically competitive they took it down so I guess I'll try my luck here :/
