Some of the changes I would like to see in mega evolutions. : pokémon go

I think mega evolutions are really cool, but I there are some issues I have with them and some ideas I think would make mega evolutions more interesting.

Note: these ideas wouldn’t necessarily be implemented together.

  1. Mega evolutions can be used way too often.

While playing story mode or online, I notice that when I do use mega evolutions, I use it all the time, right away. It comes to the point where I feel GF should have just made a new evolution rather than a “temporary” form.

So I think that there should be a cool down time between when a Pokémon mega evolves.

I was thinking having a real-time timer that determines cool-down time, but I think having a cool-down time based around Pokémon battles would be a good option as well. For example, let’s say I have a Charizard and mega evolve him to win a battle. After that battle, Charizard cannot mega evolve until the next for two Pokémon battles. After two battles, he can mega evolve again. But the number of battles you need is different for each mega evolution. The stronger the mega evolution, the more Pokémon battles you need to do. Like Lopunny would need one battle to recharge, and Salamance would need three. But during that time, you can mega evolve other Pokémon.

I think this would be really add more planning and strategy to competitive Pokémon battles. Also, I think the idea would go really well with how mega evolutions are described in the Pokédex. Pokémon will need time to recharge their body after a large boost of unnatural power.

  1. Some Pokémon didn’t need mega evolutions.

Mega evolutions were really cool because they give some lesser used Pokémon some viability in battle. Beedrill, Kangaskhan, Lopunny, no one was using them before mega evolution!! But the problem is, they also gave it to Pokémon who were already strong. Making those Pokémon even stronger. And since people can only have one mega on their team, people usually chose the mega of the stronger Pokémon.....so nothing really changed (except for Kangaskhan....)

So my idea would be for Pokémon who already had a high base stat would be not to give them an extra 100 base stat points, but only change them around. So for example, when gyarados mega evolves, instead of getting an big increases in his attack and special defense (his naturally highest stats) his stats are flipped. So instead of physical attacks and special defense being his highest stats, special attack and physical defense are mega gyarados’ highest stats. So now having a special set gyarados is now viable. Keep in mind, the base stat of mega gyarados does not increase. And something like mega Salamence gains attack and special attack, but loses defensive points.

With this idea, mega evolution for already powerful Pokémon just becomes an alternative way to use them. I think this is good to way to balance out the power creep that has been going on in Pokémon and allows the lesser used mega evolutions go get some more use.
