You would play the game as Oak and expirience his youth as a promising Pokémontrainer. Since both of them have roots in Pallet Town, maybe young Giovanni could be Oaks rival and you witness his uprising to a Pokémon-Gymleader. Maybe people, like Agatha, or Mr. Fuji could play a part as well.
